About Me

Hi my name is Claire! I’m a fourth year doctoral student studying higher education (aka college access) at the University of Virginia. I love to hang out with friends, be active, and try new things. Unfortunately my busy work/school schedule sometimes gets in the way so I’m continuously trying to achieve work-life balance.  I have one year left in Charlottesville and so I figure I should make the best of my time here; this blog follows my attempt to live the Good Life in central VA and surrounding areas. Let’s Go on a Living Spree!!!

In what may be my last year living in the beautiful, yet small, town of Charlottesville, VA (I will be writing my dissertation over the next year), I have resolved to go on a living spree. Although I’m not sure exactly how Kanye West would’ve defined it (“The good life, let’s go on a living‘ spree”), for me this will mean trying as many new things as I can and appreciating the happy, healthy life I have built here. Thanks for stopping by and joining me in living life to its fullest!!

Here are some quick facts about me:

-Being active is a major part of my lifestyle (just check out The Active Life page!).  I typically try to do one long race in the spring and one in the fall. I’ve run 5 marathons, including the Chicago and Boston Marathons and I absolutely love distance running. A serious cartilage injury during the summer of 2011 threatened to sideline me, but I have been working hard to overcome this setback and am hopefully on my way to running marathons again. I successfully ran my “comeback” marathon–The Marine Corps–in October 2012!  Aside from running, I enjoy sprint and olympic triathlons during the summer months, especially now that I have my super quick tri bike (who I have affectionately named “Ruby the Racer”). I’ve done one half ironman and it’s still up in the air if I will attempt that distance again. The swimming and running are no problem, I just need to work on my long-distance bike training 😉

-I am an identical twin! My twin sis Becky lives in New York City, so I don’t see her too often. I also have a big sis, Jessica, who lives in Chicago 🙂

-I have a french bulldog named Sophie. I love her to death; she is the smushiest little nugget! She loves all people, dogs, snoozing all day, playing with her duck toy, smiling, and snorting 🙂

-Travel, whether it is domestic or international, is a huge passion of mine. I’ve been lucky enough to travel throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America. I also love to go on physically challenging/adventure trips (with my twin sis!!). I’m all over anything that has to do with backpacking, rafting, hiking, or trekking. I can’t wait to go on more trips!

Just found your blog while looking for more running blogs to follow. I was delighted to find the pictures of your frenchie. I too am a frenchie owner! So while I may be a runner I am following mostly just to see pics of your cute little dog. 🙂
