Charlottesville Marathon Expo and Bra*Kette Offer

Hello friends and happy Friday! Downtown Charlottesville is buzzing today with runners ready to tackle the challenging Charlottesville Marathon or Half Marathon tomorrow morning. The weather looks like it will be absolutely beautiful for the races: 65 and sunny. As you know I can’t run because of my ongoing knee issues, but I had to go check out the expo today (even though it was sort of like torture because I’m not actually running).

I talked to some great vendors while I was a the expo, including the local Body Equilibrium Chiropractic and Therapy service, which explained a bit about the Melt Method. The Melt Method is a self-treatment technique that uses specialized rollers and balls to help decrease pain and heal injuries. Perfect for runners like myself who have dealt with nagging injuries (ITBS, plantar fascia) or wish to prevent them in the first place.

Body Equilibrium offers classes to teach the Melt Method and I hope to take one soon and report back!

Another exciting vendor I spoke with was Nicole, who started the company CoCo Designs and designed the Bra*Kette, which is an ingenious sports bra that offers comfort, support, and utility!

The bra has a special hidden side pocket perfect for your ipod, phone, keeps, money, training Gus, etc. It’s perfect if you like to carry some cash with you on runs just in case (like I do) or just don’t want to bulk up your pockets with extra items while on your run.

The compression bra comes in black and white and is made of out wicking material to repel moisture. Its lower band helps to keep the bra in a stable position and reduces chafing around the bust line and back. It’s a great for medium and high impact sports like running OR if you aren’t a runner and want a hands-free way to carry around some extra items at the gym (like, say a locker key), this bra would be perfect for you! I’m seriously thinking about getting both colors. You know you want one…because, well…

Youย can get $5 off your order if you go to CoCo Designs and use the promo code “BRAK” ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Are you running any races this weekend? Training runs? Or doing anything fun? Please share!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I did a long run this morning- 25km! It was tough, but I’m happy it’s over and I can relax the rest of the weekend:)

  2. That sports bra seems awesome! I have to stuff my gu in my bra but it is sometimes uncomfortable. But that side pocket would be awesome

  3. Oh my gosh that Melt thing looks like it would feel great. Sometimes my feet feel sore after a long run and that sounds like a great solution. Tappan got a foam roller that looks sort of similar and it usually feels so good after a long run!

Oh and I loved your last post about c’ville. I graduate from UVa in 2005…and oh my gosh, I remember Little John’s…we’d get drunk and eat lots of late night unhealthy things there! Probably shouldn’t mention that on a healthy living blog haha.

    • You’re right! The Melt foam roller (it’s softer than my regular foam roller) and little balls feel soooo good. Can’t wait to try them out before and after my long runs!

That’s so awesome that you are a fellow Hoo ๐Ÿ™‚ Cville has really grown on me and I think it would’ve been so much fun to go here for undergrad! And don’t worry about posting anything about drinking…many of my posts are about how I overdo it with the alcoholic beverages, haha. Foxfields is coming up so I’m sure I will have plenty of imbibing to recap ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, and sorry to write a novel, but I saw that you ran (and PR’d!) the Monument 10k! I was registered to run it again this year but have been dealing with a strange reaction to an injection in my knee so I had to sit that one out (as well as the Cville 10 miler). Let me know if you’re ever in Cville visiting!!!!!!!
