Take it Away

I have a love-hate relationship with my Wednesday schedule. Love: it’s the only day of the week that I allow myself to sleep in until 10:30 or so. Hate: I need the extra sleep because I teach a class every Wednesday for 3 hours and I inevitably never get anything else done (students always want to meet for hours after class!). Love: Fresh from my extra sleep and on my way to my building I usually stop by one of my favorite lunch places on campus, Take It Away. Take It Away is somewhat of a local institution known for it’s sandwiches on freshly baked bread. My whole first year in Charlottesville I never went because strangely they don’t offer lettuce or tomato as sandwich toppings. No lettuce or tomato?? Then it’s not a sandwich in my mind. But when I finally did get over to see what the hype was all about I was hooked. I always get the same thing: turkey with cucumbers (they do offer these as a topping) and hummus (mmmmm) on wheat bread. And the bread is A-mazing. It’s got a crusty, crunchy crust and the rest of it is soft and chewy. I am now a Take It Away groupie.

Turkey, Hummus, Cukes, on Crusty Wheat = Heaven

They also have these really yummy Pop Chips and so I get them in BBQ to round out my lunch. According to the bag they don’t fry or bake the chips so they are really healthy. I ultimately end up eating the whole bag so I’m not so sure how healthy they end up for me.

And you know that no meal would be complete for me without my beloved Diet Coke.

I'm not ready to give it up yet!

Now I’m off to teach. If the students don’t swarm me after class I’m going to book it to the gym to try to get in an easy 13 mile treadmill run (the weather is dreadful outside today). Yep, I don’t mind–rather, I like–running that far on the treadmill. Mostly I enjoy the people watching. I’m a weirdo I know.

Have a great hump day!
